Philippe, who led more laps than any
other driver in round two before contact from another car ended his day
prematurely, is making his second start at the Milwaukee track.
While the young Frenchman knows that ovals are their own art, he was pleased
with the progress that the team made during the day. Philippe has shown strength
on the ovals in his young career, as he took his first top-ten Champ Car finish
on an oval last season, scoring a strong ninth place at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
last September with Mi-Jack Conquest Racing.
"It was a pretty good day, some up and downs and at the end it was good day,"
said Philippe. "I was able to show the team that even though we had a little
incident this morning, I was able to post a good time. On my last lap, we had a
little issue with the engine, not that it will had change much my 12th position,
but it is good to know that we are a bit faster than earlier."
The race weekend is the first Champ Car oval start for Canadian ace Andrew
Ranger, who distinguished himself in round two by becoming the youngest ever
driver to stand on a Champ Car podium after taking second place in Monterrey,
Mexico. Ranger raced at the Mile last year during his Rookie of the Year Toyota
Atlantics effort, taking third at the finish in just his third Atlantics race.
Ranger had hoped for more in Friday's qualifying session, but knows that he
still has a lot of opportunity to move up during Saturday's race.
