Michel Jourdain Jr. will start
Sunday's Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, the first pole position of his
career.
source: cart.com It is Team Rahal's first pole since Jummy Vasser took the top spot here at Long Beach exactly one year ago. "My first pole, and it's such a great feeling. We had some understeer, but this is great. I'm so happy." The man who held the overnight pole, Paul Tracy (#3 Player's/Indeck Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone), ended up a frustrated second, his third straight second row starting position. But he shouldn't have any worries... He won the last two times. He lost most of Saturday's session after rubbing the wall and bending a toe-link. "I hit the wall on my first run, gave it the 'Bridgestone mark'. But it bent the toe-link, and we fixed it with just two minutes left. It wasn't enough time to get heat into the tires. So it's slightly frustrating. But we're still on the front row." Starting third will be Alex Tagliani (#33 Johnson Controls Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone), an impressive showing for the all-new team. "I'm so happy for the guys. They have worked so hard to get where we are, and this is a great reward for the team." Complete results of the last qualifying session in Long Beach at cart.com
