NASCAR: Juan Pablo Montoya says Nascar Sprint Cup Racing is not boringLately there has been much debate whether NASCAR Sprint Cup racing has become boring. Last week a NASCAR spokesman, in his blog, blamed television commentator’s coverage after Dale Jarrett, a former Sprint Cup champion, complained during the single file running at Talladega.
Juan Pablo Montoya has become a breath of fresh air in the series. He’s outspoken, yet, manages to promote his team sponsor’s message without offense. He even managed to defuse an issue of a politically incorrect statement by broadcaster, Bob Griese, about the driver out eating tacos, Montoya responded he likes tacos. In this week’s teleconference he took on the Talladega race issue as well as his view of NASCAR. “I've been in Formula 1. I've been in IndyCars, I've been in CART. I've been in you name it, Grand Am. And the best racing is right here. I'm not saying this because I'm here. I'm saying this because I've lived all of them, and nothing compares to this. “I don't get it. You know, I understand maybe complaining a lot of times. The [llink artid="113069"]Talladega[/link] race with people being very conservative and then a huge wreck. But if you go to Talladega, you can expect that. It's not something new. I don't know why people complain about it when the racing is so good,” he said. Montoya came to the United States to race in the now-defunct CART series, and later moved to Formula One with a no-nonsense, take no prisoners, style of racing. Now, under the guidance of Brian Pattie in the Target Chevrolet the Columbian-born driver has picked up the basics of becoming a Sprint Cup Chaser with calculated aggression. Whatever one thinks about the racing, Montoya will entertain fans and journalists alike, and he, for one, is NASCAR’s antidote to complaints of the series becoming boring. |
