When Champ Car announced their first major chassis change in five years, it was welcomed with open arms by everyone source: paddocktalk.com - rumors It promised a dramatically lower purchase and operating cost, and more durablility for street racing. Meanwhile, unification talks have continued to the point where Robin Miller believes that a chassis package has been chosen, he just didn't know which one. So where's that leave the Panoz model ? According to Miller, he says production 'may' have stopped on the new model. The PaddockTalk Perspective: If true, we do hope that the new series will follow Champ Car's direction on this topic. Why ? If the new series/ or either series can get the cost down without causing safety problems, they need to do it. The car costs continue to be an inhibitor to full fields while the costs for engines has fallen dramatically as both the IRL and Champ Car have moved to spec-engines. Costs are still going to be the primary issue between a highly successful series, and one that continues to flounder.... unified, or not unified.
