Sharp seeks to pick up in '06 where he left off in Fernandez Racing car source: indycar.com - Dave Lewandowski Ten years after his initial IndyCar Series co-championship, Scott Sharp sees himself contending for the 2006 driver title. It's more a strong conclusion than out-on-a-limb projection by the veteran. Based on his first season with Fernandez Racing -- one victory and 12 other top-10 finishes, including nine of the final 10 events - no wonder Sharp's confidence is high. "That's our focus," said Sharp, whose fifth place in the standings was his highest since finishing third in 2001 (13 starts; 10 top 10s, including one victory). "We really got into a great rhythm with each other early. We were quick early on, but communication takes awhile to develop. We had a great run at Motegi (runner-up) and had a great month at Indy, and that just flowed into the next few races. "I really expected a win at any point. It took awhile to get one, but we did that at Kentucky (in August). I just felt the way the team and I were working the last half of the season was just so efficient and a great relationship built me and engineering staff that I said even after the finale that I wish we could start the (2006) season right now. There were so many point that we gave away that we wouldn't right now. "There shouldn't be any reason why we couldn't pick up next year where we left off this year."
