Since Kevin Kalkhoven and Gerald Forsythe bought the assets of the CART series and re-launched it as the Champ Car World Series... there has been one constant.... Talk of re-unification source: paddocktalk.com - rumors There were talks in a hangar in Pontiac Michigan with Roger Penske. There was talk of Bridgestone/Firestone trying to take a stand with the two series a couple of years ago, and Honda's visit last fall to the Las Vegas oval led to more talk of bringing the two sides together. There was talk during April, and May of last year of Mario Andretti trying to bring the two sides together for 2007, which was eventually blown off as just... Talk. Why... Because one of the right men was never in the room. But he is now. But that being said, the Autoweek story may have been a bit optimistic based on what Fred Nation is telling SpeedTV's Robin Miller, "All that stuff about what had been agreed on and a letter of intent -- none of that is true," said Nation. "What is accurate is Kevin's quote that there is no deal." The PaddockTalk Perspective: But the facts are this.... Tony George, and Kevin Kalkhoven are talking. The right people are now in the room to make this happen. They don't need Honda, Ford, Bridgestone's, or 20+ teams worth of opinion. They don't need 40+ drivers worth of opinion, and they don't need the fans opinions, and we can be damn sure they don't want the media's opinion. For 10 years, NONE of that has mattered. For 10 years, NONE of that has had any affect. If open-wheel is to come to a resolution once and for all, the time is now. We've always said, we are perfectly content with open-wheel as it stands right now... two terrific series. Twice as much racing. But if it can be better by bringing the two sides together. It's all good in our eyes.
