Another open-wheel oval won't be making the grid

As the IRL attempts to compress their '06 schedule into a April to September time frame, PIR was a casualty. Both PIR and the IRL indicated that fan attendance were a factor in the decision. The PaddockTalk Perspective: The story has been the same for many traditional ovals, the American fan doesn't seem interested in open-wheel racing. Conversly, American fans do seem to be enthusiastic for open-wheel oval racing at newer venues like Texas, Kentucky, Chicagoland, and Nashville. But don't shed any tears for PIR. They will continue to host two NASCAR races, and tickets will quickly sell out for the 14,000 seats in the new Bobby Allison Grandstand expansion.
