Well... that didn't take long
source: paddocktalk.com Just two weeks ago, Panther to Champ Car rumors were gaining steam. Today, IndyStar.com is reporting that Panther Racing is staying in the IRL next year. Ok... no big surprise, especially considering that the team wants to challenge for Indianapolis 500 wins. But here's where it gets interesting.... The report claims that a financial offer was made by the owners of the Champ Car series. Apparently, it was made to create an incentive for Panther to consider the switch. Even stranger, the previous reports on the subject had indicated that Panther was looking at Champ Car because of their sponsors. The PaddockTalk Perspective: So inquiring minds want to know... Were Panther Racing's sponsors driving this and thus an inqury came from Panther to Champ Car ? or did Champ Car approach Panther first ? Even if Panther approached Champ Car, why was there a financial incentive package put together by Champ Car? The truth on this one is unlikely to be found soon. But it is a very important truth... Because if true it could be the first signal of a full out financial fight between the two series to lure teams, or it could end up being an isolated spat.
