Patrick Carpentier completed his first practice session in preparation for
Saturday's Indy Japan 300 to be held at Twin Ring Motegi in Japan.
Carpentier finished 9th with a lap time of 27.7425 seconds around the
2.414-kilometre (1.5-mile) egg-shaped oval course. He averaged 309.383 km/h. His
teammate Alex Barron finished 14th overall with a lap time of 27.9011 seconds
(315.625 km/h).
Fastest of the 23 drivers entered for Round 4 of the Indy Car Series 2005 was
Sam Hornish Jr. with a lap time of 27.1146 seconds (324.781 km/h). The American
driver posted his quickest time on the last lap of the session, edging Brazilian
Helio Castroneves (27.1812 s) by sixth hundredths of a second. Third fastest was
Brazilian Tony Kanaan, followed by countrymen Vitor Meira. Dario Franchitti
rounds out the top five.
Drivers will return on track for the second practice session beginning at 12:45
a.m. Eastern Time. A second daily report will be issued after the second
session.
