When it comes to motor sports, Paul
Gentilozzi may not have done it all
source: cart.com But he's come close. A hot-rodder-turned drag racer, he switched to road racing in the early 1980s first with the Kelly American Challenge and, later, the SCCA Trans-Am and IMSA GTS series. He went on to more than 30 race wins in Trans-Am and GTS competition, earning three Trans-Am driving titles and class wins in the 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring in the process. Since its founding in 1985, his Rocketsports Racing team has become one of the most leading race car design and preparation companies in North America. A successful real estate entrepreneur, Gentilozzi has taken on a couple of new challenges in 2003. Shortly before the start of the season, he acquired the marketing and promotional rights to the Trans-Am Series (where Rocketsports drivers Johnny Miller and Scott Pruett are currently 1-2 in the series points race). At the same time, Rocketsports entered the Bridgestone Presents the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford, with Alex Tagliani driving the team's Johnson Controls-backed Ford/Lola. As with any new program, the Rocketsports Champ Car team has had its ups and downs, but pole at Milwaukee, podium finishes at Monterrey and Portland as the series heads to Cleveland is ample evidence of the team's potential.
