It was with great joy that 2003 Champ Car Champion, Paul Tracy watched the New Year's Eve countdown hit midnight because that meant that a new year had begun. source: champcarworldseries.com While he leads the Champ Car series with 30 wins and over 4000 laps led and is, undeniably, the face of Champ Car, Tracy felt he needed to re-focus for 2007. His passion for driving and winning would not let him just sit idle during the off-season. Tracy has spent his entire off-season training and preparing himself for the 2007 season in order that he will spend more time on podiums than he spent last season. 2006, while exciting for Tracy, found him spread thin among different racing series, including NASCAR. One thing is certain in the upcoming season and that is Tracy is focused on his #3 Forsythe Championship Racing entry in the Champ Car World Series. In late October, Tracy announced that he was abandoning plans to participate in NASCAR in 2007 and remain loyal to Champ Car and focus on winning races for Gerry Forsythe and the Forsythe team. Last season, Tracy signed a five-year extension with Forsythe Racing and felt the best way to reciprocate the gesture from Gerry Forsythe was to offer his full time and attention to putting his #3 Indeck car in Victory Lane in 2007. "2006 was exciting on a couple levels, with my NASCAR debut and also with my five-year extension with Forsythe," Tracy said. "Unfortunately, there was not a lot of success had in either venture last season and it made me very frustrated, which is what led to my decision in October to focus on Champ Car." He continued, "I've spent every moment of my off-season training and getting my body ready to go win a championship this year. I've been bicycling and weight training and getting my weight down and I feel as though I'm more focused now than I've ever been. I'm committed to doing whatever I have to do to give Forsythe Racing another championship. I have a great team and we deserve to be in Victory Lane." Tracy will also participate in the Rolex 24 Hour Race in Daytona in late January to keep his driving skills sharp and get the feel of being back in a race car after a long off-season. Paul Tracy is unquestionably one of the most talented and colorful race car drivers in the business. In 2007, he hopes to add 'dominating' to that phrase as well.
