Pollock rides again
source: sportnetwork.net Despite talking dispassionately on Friday about his chances of securing the future of the Arrows team, Craig Pollock has had a change of heart from the Hungarian paddock, and is now talking confidently of concluding a deal backed by American investment. On Friday the ex-BAR boss expressed concern that the non-appearance of Arrows in Hungary might jeopardise any potential deal to save the team. There is also a chance that the FIA may fine the team, that the organisers of the Grand Prix may seek compensation, and that the FIA will get really nasty and throw the team out of the championship altogether. Despite all this Craig Pollock still believes that Arrows can be saved. "I'm confident something will happen. I wouldn't have said that yesterday, but I haven't had a lot of sleep," Pollock has been quoted as saying from Hungary today. "I have a group of American investors that are convinced they should keep their eye on the Formula 1 scene, and obviously the team that came up was Arrows. Tom Walkinshaw had three potential purchasers and announced to the world that I was one of them, so there was no point in denying it anymore, although it's not something I really wanted out in the open until the deal was actually done. "The way it stands today, I think we are very close to concluding some form of agreement between ourselves and Arrows, which has taken close on four months to get to this stage. But nothing has been signed. The reality is to save the team as it is, and start with a new sheet of paper. "Doing due diligence you sign a confidentiality agreement and I can't get into any form of detail." Many of the news sources available to AllAboutArrows indicate that if the Pollock deal is pulled off, then he is likely to become the new team boss. They also believe that Arrows does have the nod on an engine deal with Cosworth for 2003, although it is uncertain where that deal now lies with the Jordan announcement made today. In addition it would appear that Olivier Panis' name has also been mentioned in connection with the Pollock deal. On the digital TV coverage of the Hungarian Grand Prix, the two could be seen many times exchanging a knowing glance or two in the BAR garage. Perhaps there is some truth in that little rumour...
