Watkins Glen - Qualifying source: irl.racing-live.com / ORS / CAPSIS International Weather problems have forced the cancellation of IndyCar Series qualifying at Watkins Glen International Raceway. Per IRL rules, the field will be set by the Friday practice times, handing the Pole Position to Helio Castroneves. With temperatures in the 50's (F) and a cold drizzle falling over New York's "Finger Lakes" region, teams were forced to stand by as the morning's regularly scheduled practice was cancelled. While the IRL was prepared with rain tires in the event of inclement weather, they were still forced to shelve the morning practice when extremely low cloud cover prevented the medical helicopter from getting to the racetrack. For safety and insurance reasons, Indy Racing League rules require the medical evacuation chopper to be in place anytime cars are on the track. Starting behind Castroneves will be Tony Kanaan, with rising star Marco Andretti slotted into the third position. The medical helicopter was finally able to make it to Watkins Glen at 11:20 in the morning, allowing IndyPro Series qualifying to take place on a wet track with Bobby Wilson outrunning Alex Lloyd to take the pole position. The IndyCar Series will now use their 12:30 - 1:45 time slot as full field practice session on what looks to be a wet, but drying race track.
