Kris Meeke spun in his Citroen DS3 Saturday morning. But the Northern Irishman still leads in Argentina after 8 stages. "It was very, very dusty. I got mixed up with the braking and spun onto the grass. I had to reverse back onto the road. Hopefully the wind will clear the dust as the day goes on," said Meeke. Driving cautiously, Meeke lost more time to his closest rival and teammate Mads Ostberg later in the day. Fortunately for him, the Norwegian is feeling increasingly ill. "For me, this is the most difficult stage of the rally," said Meeke, who leads by 32.6 seconds ahead of SS10. "It was important to get through it cleanly. It’s lined with rocks and we’re using new notes too."
Furthermore, SS9 was cancelled after an accident involving Hayden Paddon and John Kennard. Officials reported no injuries. Ogier out Reigning world champion Sébastian Ogier was the first driver to bow out when a fuel supply problem dropped his Polo R's engine to three cylinders in the opening Aqua de Oro - Ascochinga stage (SS2). He parked by the roadside at the 45km point and the car went back to service on the back of a Volkswagen truck. It was the Frenchman's first retirement since last August's ADAC Rallye Deutschland. |
