First Qualifying Session: Ranger quickest rookie, Philippe twelfth on the provisional grid source: Mi-Jack Conquest Racing - Kika Garcia-Concheso Mi-Jack Conquest Racing Rookie Andrew Ranger posted the fastest lap among eight rookies in Friday's first qualifying session for Sunday's Grand Premio Telmex-Tacate presented by Banamex in Mexico City with a fast lap time of 1:29.137 seconds setting him eighth on the provisional grid. Ranger had posted a faster lap earlier in the session, but the time was disallowed when the young Canadian brought out a red flag after spinning in pursuit of a faster time. Mi-Jack Conquest Racing teammate Nelson Philippe, who is sporting a distinctive new helmet for the weekend with the colors of the Mexican flag, qualified twelfth on the provisional grid after his fastest lap was cut short after the red flag ended the session early. Both Philippe and Ranger are looking forward to improving their positions on Saturday as they both feel as though they have quick cars that are capable of improving further. Nelson Philippe # 34 Wellbox - Mi-Jack Conquest Racing "We had a really good car, but when I switched to the red (option tires) to go out for a final run, there were several cars ahead so I backed off to get a gap, and when I went to set a time, I didn't get to finish the lap because of the red flag," said Philippe. "It is disappointing because the Wellbox car is very good and I think we could have been in the top five today had we been able to get the lap in. But, we will get another chance tomorrow, and I really feel like we should be strong in the race as well." Andrew Ranger # 27 Mi-Jack/Tide - Mi-Jack Conquest Racing "It is good to be the quickest rookie here in my first visit," said Ranger. "I love this track, and the esses are really incredible. The car was pretty good, and I was really pushing to get a good qualifying spot but I just lost it when I hit a bump, so that unfortunately ended the session for us. At least my next fastest lap was good enough for the top ten and I know we can keep improving tomorrow." Saturday's qualifying session is slated to get underway at 12:45 PM local time (CT).
