After a west coast road trip, Red Bull Cheever Racing returned to the familiar Midwest today for practice and qualifying at Chicagoland Speedway source: Red Bull Cheever Racing Despite running on familiar ground, the team struggled a bit finding top-end speed on the 1.5-mile oval. Patrick Carpentier led the team in practice and qualifying today. In the early practice sessions, he found himself around the middle of the speed charts. His best speed on the day was 214.606 mph. He lost a bit during qualifying with a hot track. His run produced a top speed of 212.401 mph, which will leave him starting 19th for the race. "I am hoping the pace will slow down a little bit tomorrow. We should have a good race. Anyone can win here at Chicagoland. We always seem to be slow in qualifying but we do well in the races. As long as I can stick on the guy's gearbox in front of me it will be alright," Carpentier said. Alex Barron trailed his teammate in practice and qualifying, but by slim margins. His top practice speed was 213.507 mph, while he turned in a qualifying run of 211.190 mph. His result has him starting 21st on the grid for tomorrow's race. "I thought we would run quicker, so it's unfortunate that we came away with what we did. We definitely need to figure something out tonight. For the race, we have to be able to stay in the draft, so we're going to need to find a little more speed tonight to be able to keep up tomorrow. Right now, we're struggling, but I know the guys will work hard to give me a good racecar. Despite how we qualify, we've been pretty good with our race setups all year," Barron said. The team will return to the track tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. ET for the final 30-minute practice session. The green flag for the Peak Antifreeze Indy 300 will drop tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. ET and will air live on ABC.
