On a hot and humid day at Twin Ring Motegi Speedway, Red Bull Cheever Racing
drivers Patrick Carpentier and Alex Barron qualified 14th and 16th for the Indy
Japan 300 on April 30.
In the No. 83 Red Bull Cheever Racing Toyota, Patrick Carpentier drove his
fastest lap of the event on the second lap of his qualifying run. His qualifying
speed of 200.770 mph (27.2551 seconds) places him 14th on the 23-car starting
grid for the Indy Japan 300.
"It was not too bad," Carpentier said. "We made some changes for qualifying so I
was learning the car during the run. We have seen consistent improvement from
the Toyota engine. One thing for sure is that we have a good race car for the
Indy Japan 300. The Red Bull Toyota is stable and strong. Tomorrow we will be
looking not only for a finish but to move forward in the field."
In the No. 51 Red Bull Cheever Racing Toyota, Alex Barron turned a fast lap of
200.149 mph (27.3397 seconds). He will start the Indy Japan 300 16th.
"I had too much push in the car for qualifying," Barron said. "We weren't able
to duplicate what we did in practice. We were one-tenth off our best lap time
(of 201.080 mph). The Indy Japan 300 is going to be a sprint race. We are
focusing on having a consistent balance in the car from start to finish."
Round four of the 17-race 2005 IRL IndyCar Series is April 30 with the Indy
Japan 300 at Twin Ring Motegi Speedway. The race will be telecast by ESPN at
Noon (EDT) on April 30 with a live simulcast of the race at 11:59 p.m. (EDT) on
April 29 by ESPN360.com.
