More than 6000 miles from home in Indianapolis, the Red Bull Cheever Racing
crew was on track today practicing for the Indy Japan 300 on April 30. Drivers
Patrick Carpentier and Alex Barron were 13th and 14th fastest of the day on the
Twin Ring Motegi Speedway.
Canadian Patrick Carpentier completed 81 laps in the two practice sessions. His
fastest average speed in the No. 83 Red Bull Toyota was 198.440 mph.
"The day started well," Carpentier said. "We did some work since St. Pete and
really improved. Our progress stalled in the afternoon session. The car was
sliding too much. We couldn't take advantage of the new tires we put on."
Californian Alex Barron turned a fastest average speed of 198.334 mph in the No.
51 Red Bull Toyota. He completed 71 laps.
"The day went well, we made some improvements from the first to the second
sessions," Barron said. "We are going to make an engine change tonight and we
have a few more things to look at in our final practice tomorrow before
qualifying. I have a good feeling that we will see some more improvement."
Round four of the 17-race 2005 IRL IndyCar Series is April 30 with the Indy
