Kansas Race Report
source: redbullcheeverracing.com Alex Barron: #51 Dallara/Toyota/Firestone Patrick Carpentier: #83 Dallara/Toyota/Firestone The Red Bull Cheever Racing team did everything in its power during the Argent Mortgage Indy 300 at Kansas Speedway to bring home another pair of top 10s, but fell just short during the final laps of the race. Both Alex Barron and Patrick Carpentier started the race moving up the field with Carpentier picking up three spots within the first three laps, which put him 16th. Both cars proceeded to move steadily up the field and by lap 142 both drivers were in the top ten with the #83 car in eighth and the #51 car in ninth. However, fuel strategies came in to play down the stretch with only three yellows during the race. This left the duo battling each other at the end for 13th and 14th position. When the dust settled, Barron just edged his teammate coming away with 13th. "We ran a really clean race with good pit stops and no real problems out on the track. The car was good, but we just couldn't find the power we needed. We had a great run a little more than half way through the race where we moved up some spots, but we just couldn't hold on. We also were playing with our fuel strategy, but it went green to the end, so it didn't hurt us or help us. Overall, I think we worked way too hard this weekend to end up 13th," Barron said. Carpentier kept battling until the end. He was in seventh with 11 laps to go, but the team's fuel strategy forced him to come in when there were no yellow flags after lap 139. This drop in position left him disappointed with his 14th-place finish after battling all day to climb his way toward the front.
