Short track success
source: redbullcheeverracing.com Pikes Peak Pre-Race Report Alex Barron: #51 Dallara/Toyota/Firestone Patrick Carpentier: #83 Dallara/Toyota/Firestone When it comes to the league's short tracks, few teams have consistently done better then Red Bull Cheever Racing. Patrick Carpentier has placed in the top 10 on every track shorter than 1.5 miles, including two third place finishes (Richmond and Nashville). Barron also has two top-10s this year on the shorter tracks. The team also is hitting its stride with five top 10 finishes in the past six races. This includes a fourth-place finish by Alex Barron last week at Kentucky Speedway, which is his best of the season and his fifth top 10. Alex Barron has raced at Pikes Peak International Raceway three times previously and scored two top 10s (10th in 2002 and 2004). IndyCar Series newcomer, Patrick Carpentier is a rookie at the one-mile oval. The team's take on Pikes Peak International Raceway "The toughest thing about this track is that the altitude is so high that you suffer in downforce because the air is so bad. The thin air also takes away some of your engine power. So, it really requires a different setup that we would typically run on a circuit like this. The track has two or three big bumps and both sides are different from each other, so you really have to work on the car a lot mechanically during the practice sessions to get it right for qualifying and the race. Kentucky gave us another good reference on the car, so hopefully we can apply our good result to build momentum for us this race. We did a lot of short track testing in Richmond, which really helped us, and we seem to be really strong on these kinds of tracks right now."- Alex Barron
