On first day preparations for Portland Grand Prix
source : Rocketsports Racing A day that started off with partly cloudy skies, turned to dark clouds with spits of rain, to heavier rain, to a warm-up and sunny skies, which played a major role in Rocketsports Racing results during the first day of on-track activity for Sunday's G.I. Joe's Presents The Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland. Famed for his 2003 run in Hockenhiem, a race that saw him overtake five cars in the last lap of the European Formula 3 race to take the win in the rain, Timo Glock is known for succeeding in the races driving under the most difficult conditions. The "Rainman 2003" showed a liking to the wet 1.964-mile permanent road course of Portland International Raceway when he posted the fifth quickest time during the morning session, which saw light showers throughout the majority of the hour and fifteen minute session. As the afternoon rolled around, the rain was still light, but stopped almost immediately when the green flag for qualifying dropped. Conditions changed from the morning, causing the first obstacle followed by the German feeling that something was broke on the back end of the #8 DHL Global Mail/Rocketsports Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone. Everything checked out fine and Glock went out for his provisional qualifying run, posting a time of 58:407 (121.054 mph), the 11th quickest time of the day. Ryan Hunter-Reay made his way onto the track this morning for the third time of his Champ Car career. Experience helped the young American get as high as sixth quickest during the session, before ending his morning run in the 11th spot.
