Rocketsports Racing has established a strong presence source: cart.com The start of the 2003 CART Champ Car season saw the emergence of a brand new team on the open-wheel racing scene and after five of 19 races, Rocketsports Racing has established a strong presence in the Bridgestone Presents The CART Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford. Well known for it's accomplishments in the Trans-Am series, Rocketsports has demonstrated its ability to rival the well-established teams in the Champ Car paddock and remain competitive. Driver Alex Tagliani has led the Rocketsports assault on track and has turned heads with his show of speed and skill in the new #33 Johnson Controls Lola. Tagliani currently sits in 11th position in the series standings with 22 championship points and a record of consistently fast laps. The true competitive potential of Rocketsports was first realized in round two of the series, when Tagliani earned a third place start and podium finish in Monterrey. It was an eye-opener to many veteran squads in the Champ Car paddock, who had expected the rookie team to take its time getting up to speed. Tagliani kept his mount in the top five all day and the pit crew gave solid service making the first tangible statement that Rocketsports fully intended to be a strong contender for bragging rights. This comeback set Rocketsports on track after initial expectations in round one at St. Petersburg were tamed when Tagliani made contact with the tire barrier, prematurely ending his race.
