The starting grid for Sunday's Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach was determined today placing Rocketsports rookie Timo Glock in the top six for his first rolling start and first Champ Car race source: Rocketsports Racing A promising day for the #8 Deutsch POST Speed Academy Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone began during the morning practice session that saw the young German run a top-five time. Glock posted a 1:08.966 (102.729 mph) during his 29 laps on track in the morning session in preparation for final qualifying. As he headed out early for his 15 qualifying laps around the 1.968-mile temporary street circuit on the streets of Long Beach, Glock posted the fastest time of the session on his third lap. His fastest lap in qualifying was 1:08.274 (103.770 mph) that he posted during his tenth lap out, good enough to place him fourth on the board. A brush against the wall would cut his chances of improving his time, as he completed only 13 of his 15 allotted laps. Playing the waiting game while the rest of the field finished their qualifying run, Glock found himself starting sixth on the grid for his Champ Car debut marking the best qualifying performance by a driver since the 2003 season opener. "Qualifying wasn't too bad for us today," Glock stated on his first qualifying run. "The #8 Deutsch POST Speed Academy car was difficult to drive yesterday but this morning we did a long run in practice and I was able to develop a rhythm. We also found a good setup during the practice and during my first run we were really good. On my last lap on that run I hit the wall which changed the toe (tire alignment) on the left rear of the car. The team did a good job and we made some good changes on the car. This will be my first rolling start so I don't know really what to expect. It will be difficult in the first corner and should be really interesting."
