Throughout the first day on the streets of Houston, Texas, the RSPORTS team made their presence known by running Justin Wilson and Alex Tagliani in the top five during both the morning and afternoon sessions as they prepare for final qualifying tomorrow for the Grand Prix of Houston. source: RSports Activities in The Lone Star State started this morning with a one hour-and-fifteen-minute practice session. Tagliani was hot right out of the box sitting P1 after running eight laps around the 1.658-mile temporary street circuit. Wilson also had something to show for after eight laps, as he sat P2. For the majority of the session, Tagliani was sitting in the top three but would finish the morning session in the fifth spot on old tires after running a time of 59.924 (101.108 mph). Wilson kept up his momentum throughout the session as well which saw him move in and out of the top five, until he posted his fastest time of 59.841 (101.248 mph) which tagged him fourth overall. Under sunny skies, hot and humid temperatures, the drivers set out for their first adventure of qualifying in Houston this afternoon. Both were comfortable with the RSPORTS car and ready to go. During the 15-minute practice session of qualifying, Tagliani topped the charts sitting P1, while teammate Wilson sat P5. When the green flag dropped starting the first round of qualifying, the RSPORTS duo rolled out on Black Bridgestone Potenza Tires. After six laps, Tagliani ended his first run and sat third on the Champ Car timing and scoring charts. Wilson went one more lap than his teammate, ending his first stint after seven laps which moved him up to the third spot. After a red flag, the provisional qualifying round went green with five minutes to go seeing all 17 Champ Cars hurry out to get in a few more laps. Tagliani and Wilson both opted to save one of their two qualifying sets of Red Bridgestone Potenza Tires for tomorrow, so the duo headed out for their final run this afternoon on Blacks. Wilson posted a time of 59.216 (102.317 mph) after completing 13 laps this afternoon and currently sits fourth on the provisional grid for Sunday's Grand Prix of Houston. Tagliani was just behind him, sitting in the fifth spot, after recording a time of 59.269 (102.225 mph) during his two six-lap runs. The RSPORTS team and drivers will be back on track tomorrow morning for another practice session, before taking the green flag for the final round of qualifying at 1:30 local time. Tomorrow's qualifying session will determine the starting lineup for Sunday's Grand Prix of Houston at JAGFlo Speedway at ReliantPark. The race will be televised live on ESPN at 3:00 p.m. (EST).
