Following several rumours to that effect, RuSPORT have officially hinted at a possible merger with rival team Rocketsports following the two-day test at Laguna Seca where the two squads worked together to generate data. source: crash.net With both RuSPORT and Rocketsports thought to be struggling to find backing to run a second car after confirming Justin Wilson and Alex Tagliani to their first seats respectively, whispers last week hinted at a possible deal between the two to come together for the coming season. As it happens, the teams joined forces at Laguna Seca to negate the disadvantage of not running a second car, both Wilson and Tagliani putting their combined experience together in extracting more speed from the new Panoz DP01. Although this test was mooted to be a one-off, RuSPORT's ensuing press release revealed that 'RuSPORT teamed up with fifth-year Champ Car team Rocketsports Racing as an attempt to work together as a two-car effort for this test and possibly in the 2007 season'. Indeed, RuSPORT team boss Jeremy Dale admitted he found the link with Rocketsports very beneficial, not least because it has helped them understand their car better than if they just had Wilson providing information. "Overall, it was a good test for us," commented Jeremy Dale, RuSPORT President. "Our goals were simple, we wanted to continue to run as many miles as we possibly could and gain as much understanding of the new Panoz Champ Car in order to make it as fast as we can. "I think that we were able to accomplish those things over the last two days, and it was a great experience to work with the Rocketsports crew. We achieved a lot, and with out a doubt, working with them added to the overall efficiency of this test. With the positive results we had during this test, we are really looking forward to our first race in a few weeks."
