Just one month after Target Chip Ganassi Racing driver Ryan Briscoe's accident during the Chicago IndyCar Series race (Sept.11), the young Aussie is showing significant improvement to the injuries he incurred after only two weeks of adhering to a strict rehabilitation program outlined by Formula Medicine, a rehabilitation center in Italy for drivers source: paddocktalk.com His lastest clavicular X-rays show the fractured bones are healing nicely. Formula Medicine's staff orthopaedist, Dr. Vito Maiolino, believes that Briscoe will be able to train without the aid of any support bandages or brace within the next 10 to 15 days. Thanks to a daily physiotherapy regime, Briscoe's discomfort and hematomas (bruises on his back) have been reduced further and thus is improving the pace at which he will be able to return to top physical condition. A big factor in the recovery process has been Briscoe strong determination and total devotion to the program that the doctors at Formula Medicine have prepared for him. In the past few days and much earlier than anticipated, Ryan has also begun to do some light movements at a computerized steering wheel simulator. This is the same piece of equipment that enabled another driver, Robert Kubica, newly crowned Formula Renault World Champion, to make a rapid return to competition following a multi-fracture injury to an arm. "Considering the vast improvements that we have seen in Ryan's physical condition," said Aldo Fenu, head of the rehabilitation department at Formula Medicine, "we are even more optimistic about his recovery period being further shortened, allowing him the possibility to get into a race car earlier than might be expected."
