Brazilian Gualter Salles is to replace Alex Yoong at Dale Coyne Racing from
the next round of the Champ Car World Series at Milwaukee, after the Malaysian
driver was asked to step down due to a lack of funding.
Yoong moved over from Formula 1 to race for Dale Coyne Racing this year, ousting
Roberto Gonzalez from the team after the opening race of the season. However, he
has now found himself sidelined in favour of Salles, who will return to Champ
Cars for the first time since 2000.
"There is simply not enough interest in the series from Malaysia at the
moment and we have not been able to find the necessary funding to complete the
year," said Yoong. "I am grateful to Dale Coyne for having given me
the chance to prove that I can do the job."
Salles said: "It's great to come back to CART. I was talking to Dale
(Coyne, team owner) since the beginning of the year. I'm sure that it is going
to be a wonderful experience to race in such a competitive series that has great
media coverage all over the world."
