Scheckter Shines at Texas - Carpentier 16th
source: racingone.com Tomas Scheckter drove a brilliant race in the Pennzoil Platinum Chevrolet, taking the lead from Tony Kanaan with nine laps remaining and then holding off Sam Hornish Jr. by .0534 seconds to win Saturday evenings Bombardier Learjet 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. It was the second IRL IndyCar Series triumph for Scheckter, who last won at Michigan in 2002, and the first win for Chevrolet in the series since California in 2003. "We've come so close, but we've done it tonight," said Scheckter, who ran out of fuel in the final laps while leading at Japan earlier in the year. "We had a tough Indy, so it was great to do this tonight. I want to do this again and again, and can do it. We've got the car and the team." While Scheckter had the strongest car, he dropped back several times following pit stops. Each time, we was able to work his way back to the front. While the race was slowed four times for cautions in the early going - with the only accident eliminating Jimmy Kite in a single-car incident on lap six - the final 127 of 200 circuits were run under the green flag. Hornish attempted an outside pass on the final lap, with the nose of his Marlboro Team Penske Toyota up to Scheckter's rear wheel at the stripe.
