Alex clung to his existence as the CART medical safety team put their considerable expertise into overdrive. Miraculously, they were able to stop the eulogy before it could be written. Media personnel unaccustomed with racing delivered the horrific news to our eyes and ears. The accident was given special attention due to the massive event cancellations in the United States and abroad. The footage of a helicopter transporting Alex away ran continuously. The race broadcast was delayed. And we waited.
