Oriol Servia says he would like to see single car qualifying in CART, especially when the series visits tight street courses such as Toronto and Vancouver, where passing is at a premium source:tsn.ca The Spaniard has been among the more vocal drivers expressing their frustration at being blocked while attempting to set a fast lap in qualifying. "It would solve definitely the problems because then, you know, it's just yourself and the racetrack," said the Visteon/Patrick Racing pilot leading up to this weekend's Molson Indy Vancouver. "We did it in Brands Hatch and I thought it was a great show for the fans and for the rest of us because you actually get to see the other guys qualifying. I think it adds a little bit of emotion to the whole process." Servia says the constant complaints about blocking levelled at other drivers is a problem, one that will not easily go away as long as everyone is battling for the same piece of asphalt in the final minutes of qualifying. "I don't think its people trying to block each other; it's just people trying to get a clear lap," explains Servia. "You try to get your own space from the guy in front of you. Just when you see the car behind you, you start putting the speed on." "We are not helping each other doing that. That's our own problem, the drivers' problem, because at the end it's going to be impossible to qualify if we keep doing that. You need to think about the others. If you give them a break, they will give it to you. If you let them do their best lap, they're going to let you do your best lap." One suggestion that Servia would like to see adopted from Formula One is the use of tire warmers. That would mean less time spent on track trying to get the tires up to temperature, allowing drivers to get their quick laps in sooner.
