IRL IndyCar Series veteran Scott Sharp walked away uninjured from a hefty impact with the outside retaining wall in turn four at the Kansas Speedway after suspension failure put him out of Sunday's Kansas Lottery Indy 300. source: crash.net The Fernandez Racing driver looked set for another top ten finish in the 200-lap race despite starting out with a poor handling car until it all came to an end on lap 165, Sharp spinning backwards into the outside wall to leave him 18th in the final rundown. "It was a shame," said Sharp, who started tenth and was squaring up to take eighth position at the time of the accident. "It was tough out there as we expected. With the temperature, we were sliding around a lot. We started the race off very, very tight. We had to put a bunch of [front] wing in every stop and make tire pressure changes. "We finally started getting there a little bit on the last run. We moved up and passed some guys. I could work the outside and started to catch the pack ahead of me. I went down into [Turn] three and all of a sudden boom. I just felt the left rear drop and I knew it was going to be ugly. I tried to just keep it from coming around and sort of chased it down onto the apron and then finally it just came around and I braced for the crash and backed it in." "It was definitely a tough day for the Delphi Fernandez team," added team co-owner Tom Anderson. "We had trouble getting hooked up all weekend, and never really came to grips with the set-up here. We were making up some ground later in the race and finally had what probably was our best balance of the weekend. Then we had some sort of part failure in the left rear suspension of the car as Scott was entering Turn Three.
