Actually, the metaphorical title would have worked
a lot better had newlywed Alex Tagliani returned for a fourth season at
Player's/Forsythe Racing instead of moving to Rocketsports.
source: CART.com - David Phillips Nevertheless, the chestnut about the old, the new, the borrowed and the blue aptly summarizes Player's/Forsythe Racing's approach to Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Presented by Ford in 2003. There's plenty of "old," although "experienced" might be the preferred term. Somewhat against the odds, Patrick Carpentier returns for his sixth season with the team. "Against the odds" because, at mid-season last year, few pundits would have bet the mortgage that Carpentier would be back with Player's/Forsythe in '03. Paul Tracy was already being penciled-in with the team and Carpentier trailed Tagliani in the points race. But he came on strong in the final two thirds of the season to claw his way to third place in the championship and secure an invitation for a return engagement with the team. Carpentier will have plenty of familiar faces around him in 2003, from co-owners Gerald Forsythe and Player's Ltd. to Vice President of Operations Neil Micklewright and team manager Phil LePan to "Supreme Crew Chief" Dave Brzozowski and race engineer Michael Cannon. And, unlike many Champ Car teams, they'll be working with familiar faces and procedures when they turn their attention to the new Ford-Cosworth XFE engines that power the series in 2003. For Player's/Forsythe has helped carry the Ford-Cosworth standard since the dawn of the 21st century.
