Stock cars, Atlantic and Formula Ford cars, even the latest solar vehicles
will be part of the festival of speed unfolding on Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve
during the Champ Car Grand Prix of Montreal weekend, August 25-27.
source: champcarmontreal.com Alan Labrosse, the promoter of the Montreal event, announced today the CASCAR Super Series, Canadian Formula Ford 1600 and Atlantic Championship, Champ Car's ladder series, will complement the weekend's feature attraction - Round 11 of the Champ Car World Series, North America's premier open-wheel racing series. "All three of these support races are going to have impressive grids of 30 or more cars," said Labrosse. "The action should be fast and furious - in keeping with our philosophy of making this entire event a festival of speed. Anyone who's interested in motor-sports is going to find something they like on race weekend." The event will also include the participation of student engineers from three Montreal universities - Ecole Polytechnique (Université de Montréal), Ecole de technologie supérieure (UQAM) and McGill University - who will be trying to win the "Solar Car Challenge". The sun-powered, electrically charged vehicles, with a steel-welded aluminium-tubed structure, reach a top speed of 140 kilometres per hour. While the Atlantic series has been a Champ Car Grand Prix support race in Montreal on a number of occasions - current Champ Car driver Alex Tagliani won in front of his home crowd in 1999 - this year marks the first appearance of the CASCAR Super Series on Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve. Canada's premier stock-car racing series brings together top drivers from throughout the country.
