It was a historical day for the Champ Car
series with the first night race being held in source: Bronte Tagliani There was much excitement at the grid with Tag on pole for the first time in the 2003 season. Unfortunately things didn't span out as well as hoped for the #33 Rocketsports/ Johnson Controls car, Alex finishing in 5th position. "Although we had wanted to do better (of
course) it was a solid race for our team and we earned good points for the
championship. I have to give the
crew credit as they did great stops throughout the race." Jourdain managed to get the start from Alex and from that point Tag seemed to be stuck in traffic with no way past. He stayed on the lead lap, helped by the consistent team work of his crew, and was fighting for 4th position until the very last lap. Tag's passion for racing wouldn't allow him to quit despite the car losing handling quality; and encouraged by his team manager and the team owner, really tried hard to gain position in the final laps of the race. "The car was handling really well when I
could run in clean air by myself, but as soon as I ran into traffic it was bad.
I was hanging on to it waiting for the next stop, hoping that we could
improve the handling. But after all
this I can be content with the 5th place finish and the points that
come with it." The next race sees the teams off in "I'm looking forward to the warmer
weather in
