Round Seven of Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered By Ford - The Molson Indy Vancouver July 23-25, 2004 source: Rocketsports Racing - Nadia Petrossi Canadian driver, Alex Tagliani returns to the Molson Indy Vancouver on Sunday, July 25, 2004 in the No. 8 Johnson Controls Lola for Round Seven of the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered By Ford. Tagliani currently ranks fifth in the Champ Car World Series standings with 103 points and is one of only two Champ Car drivers to have successfully completed each race this season. No stranger to the Vancouver street circuit, Tagliani has sat in the front row of the Vancouver starting grid three times in his open-wheel career. Tagliani earned the Champ Car Pole and led the first 68 laps in Vancouver in 2001, until a gearbox failure ended his race in lap 69. While racing in the Toyota Atlantic Championship Series, Tagliani took the Pole in 1999 and started in second position in 1998. "Vancouver is a great city and it's fun to be in town for the week leading up to the Vancouver Indy," said Tagliani. "There's a great atmosphere and Molson hosts some cool events in the city and at the race track. Fans have the opportunity to meet drivers or teams and see the cars at the track, and mix with other fans at street festivals and parties. It's entertaining for the drivers, crew members and fans alike! "The Vancouver street course always makes for interesting racing," noted Tagliani. "The track is a mix of high and low speed corners and it gets pretty narrow in some places, so it can be tough to pass. The most challenging part of the course is the last chicane because of the curves, and it's a high-speed area, so the car jumps over the curbing hard. "The Johnson Controls team has been working hard all season and holding on to a top-five position in the championship standings. It's important for us remain competitive and stay ahead for the season. Our plan for the weekend is to go with a solid street course set-up, put together a fast car, and qualify well. If I'm in a good starting position and can maintain or move ahead in the race, then we have a good chance for success on Sunday," determined Tagliani. Race Details: Track Length: 1.781 mile temporary street course (2.866 km)
