TAG on the way out! source: tsn.ca MONTREAL (CP) - The Player's-Forsythe team, uncertain about having three cars in the 2003 CART racing championship, has given driver Alex Tagliani permission to negotiate with rival teams, a spokesman said Wednesday. Player's is expected to announce at the end of the season that it has signed Paul Tracy of Toronto and re-signed Patrick Carpentier of Joiliette, Que., as its drivers, but is not sure it will find the money to run a third car. Tagliani, of Lachenaie, Que., is under contract for 2003, but is likely to be dropped if funding for a third car cannot be raised. ``Tagliani's contract does not allow him to talk to other teams, so a couple of weeks ago, he was given permission to talk to other teams,'' the spokesman said. Tagliani told Montreal radio station CKAC this week that he has contacted two or three other teams and that he didn't expect to be back with Player's. Player's is limited under Canadian anti-tobacco legislation in how much it can spend on the team, so funding for a third car must come from an outside sponsor. The spokesman said that if Tagliani signs with another team, Player's will likely drop the idea of running a third car. Tagliani is seventh in CART standings this season with 103 points. Cristiano da Matta of Brazil leads with 219.
