The last Champ Car practice session at the Milwaukee Mile produced its share of surprises source: cart.com Rocketsports Racing's Alex Tagliani turned a series of quick laps throughout the 1 hour, 45 minute session, culminating in a 20.882-second tour that was a clear three-tenths of a second faster than Milwaukee track record holder Patrick Carpentier who managed a 21.208. Midway through the practice, Tagliani was fastest at 21.214 seconds. That time held up until the French-Canadian took his Johnson Controls Ford/Lola out for a simulated qualifying run with ten minutes to go. The car was obviously handling well, because 'Tag' cracked off successive laps of 21.120 and 20.882 seconds, the latter working out to an average speed of 177.914 mph. Rookie Mario Haberfeld has looked smooth throughout the two days in the Mi-Jack Conquest Ford/Reynard, and he posted the third best lap of the session at 21.313 to head five drivers in the 21.3-second bracket, including Paul Tracy, Friday pace-setter Michel Jourdain, Darren Manning and Oriol Servia. Jourdain completed just 20 laps in the session, fewest in the 19-car field. At the other end of the spectrum, PK Racing's Patrick Lemarie managed 108 tours on the way to 15th place. Lemarie is enjoying the tutelage of former Champ Car driver Mauricio Gugelmin, who has joined the PK team in an advisory capacity.
