Champ Car racing returns to Canada this weekend, after a bumpy off-season for the second straight year source: canada.com But Canadian drivers Paul Tracy and Alex Tagliani are doing their bit to raise the profile of the Toronto race, grabbing headlines and sound bites by bickering over an incident last Saturday in Cleveland that resulted in Tracy's departure on the first lap. Tracy, the hometown hero, accused Tagliani, from Lachenaie, Que., of instigating the contact that knocked the defending series champion out of the race. The sniping started at the track in Cleveland, continued in newspaper columns by both drivers and surfaced again at a pre-race event Thursday. "Alex who? When he wins a race I might give him a little bit of respect, but it's five years coming so I don't really have much to say about him," Tracy said dismissively. Tagliani tried to diffuse the bitter feelings. "I'm all about love," he said, before finding out that Tracy had just proclaimed he wouldn't show Tagliani any respect until "he backs it up on the race track." Then his tone quickly changed. "That's unbelievable," he said, adding sarcastically, "If you have to win a race to get respected, then we only have to respect Paul Tracy."
