Team Australia came away from the third round of the Champ Car World Series at the famous and treacherous Milwaukee Mile today with two straight race cars - Mission Accomplished!
source: champcar.com Struggling with ill-handling cars, both Canadian Alex Tagliani and Gold Coaster Marcus Marshall finished 10th and 13th respectively on an ever-changing Milwaukee surface in their Aussie Vineyards-back Lolas. Both drivers struggled enormously in their first stints of the time-reduced 221-lap race and from then on it was a battle for the rest of the day. The team, which was racing at Milwaukee for the first time with new Lola chassis, was provided with some reward earlier in the day when Tagliani topped the time sheets for the first time in Team Australia colours in the warm-up. Marshall also produced his best ever session result when he was ninth quickest, but the conditions we a little different come race time. While the Team Australia cars came away without a scratch, some others were not so lucky. The race was yellow-flagged three times and it only took five laps for the first one when former Gold Coast Lexmark Indy 300 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay hit the outside wall at turn three. Rookie Andrew Ranger then hit the wall on lap 127 and there was a final re-start after a yellow was flown for debris on the circuit 11 laps from the chequered flag.
