Last week may have been an off week on the Bridgestone Presents the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford schedule, but it wasn't a week off for the series' 13 teams. source: cart.com More than three quarters of the field left home to go testing, spanning America from Portland to Phoenix to Miami. Portland International Raceway was the site of major activity, with ten of the 19 regular car/driver combinations on hand. Though official times were not recorded, multiple sources confirmed that Team Rahal's Michel Jourdain kept up his impressive Long Beach form by claiming fast lap honors at Portland with a 58.5-second clocking. That's marginally quicker than Cristiano da Matta's 2002 Portland pole time of 58.679 seconds and it was good enough to edge Adrian Fernandez and Alex Tagliani. "We tested a lot of things and improved the feel of the car," remarked Fernandez Racing owner/driver Fernandez after running a 58.6-second lap on the second and final day of testing. "I am happy. On the first day we were fourth quickest after trying a few new things. The main thing is that the car feels better. I think we are learning a little bit more about the car and, obviously, we did a lot in preparation for Brands Hatch and Germany." Tagliani's 58.8-second lap was fastest on day one and he backed it up with a 58.9 on the second day as he continues to mesh with the Rocketsports team's new engineers Will Phillips and Adam Schaechter.
