Scott Sharp will attempt to add another trophy from California Speedway to the Fernandez Racing shop trophy case in the Toyota Indy 400 on Oct. 16 source: indycar.com Last Oct. 3, Adrian Fernandez won his third IndyCar Series race of the season - and second in a row -- at the 2-mile track in Fontana, Calif. Fernandez passed Tony Kannan on the final lap to finish 0.0183 of a second ahead - the closest finish at the speedway and the seventh closest in series history. Kanaan clinched the 2004 IndyCar Series championship with his second-place finish. It was Kanaan's 14th consecutive top-5 finish. Oct. 6, 2001: Sam Hornish Jr. started on the pole, led 115 laps but needed a final-lap pass of Scott Sharp to win the season finale Chevy 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. Hornish finished 0.0188 of a second ahead of Sharp after passing him just ahead of the finish line. Robbie Buhl was just 0.0468 of a second behind Hornish in third. The race had 32 lead changes among six drivers. Hornish, who already had clinched the series championship at Chicagoland, finished in the top three in 10 of the 13 races in 2001.
