With
their best starting spot of the season, 5th on the grid, things were
looking up for Tiago Monteiro and the #7 Fittipaldi-Dingman Racing entry for
today's Centrix Financial Grand Prix of Denver.
After two yellow flags on the start, it was lap three before the field
finally took the green. Losing 2
spots early to the Player's/Forsythe cars, Monteiro was still in great shape,
running 7th and staying right with Tracy who was in 6th at
the time. With nearly 2/3 of the
race complete the day took a turn for the worse.
A problem during the 3rd and final pit stop of the day would
send Tiago back out behind Mika Salo of PK Racing.
The two rookies got together ending the day for both. Monteiro
was disappointed with the final results of what had been a perfect weekend.
"I don't know what to say," lamented the young driver.
"We definitely have not had a lot of luck.
This weekend was amazing; running in the top 5 all weekend; our best
qualifying session of the season (5th).
The race was okay; we had at the time the 2nd fastest lap of
the race and were keeping pace, waiting for someone to make a mistake.
Then the suspension broke and there was contact with Mika (Salo).
We've definitely got the speed, now we need a break.
The team and everyone did an amazing job. I'm looking forward to
Miami." Team
Manager Chris Mower frustrated that the team was unable to come through for
their driver during the final stop of the day.
"Today the team let Tiago down," Mower said.
"He drove a fantastic race. We
had a fast car, but there was an unfortunate mistake during the pit stop.
We're looking forward to Miami. We've
got a good car for street tracks and we owe it to Tiago to get him in the top
6."
The
team now heads back to Indianapolis for a few days of well-deserved rest
before heading to Miami for the Series' only September event.
The Grand Prix Americas will take place in Miami September 26th
through the 28th. For
