Team Australia Champ Car drivers Will Power and Alex Tagliani have had a tough day at the office in Round 12 of the Champ Car World Series at the Road America circuit in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin today. source: teamaustraliamotorsport.com While the Team Australia Atlantic team enjoyed much success with Simon Pagenaud earning the first of what is hoped to be many championships for the Aussie Vineyards-backed squad, Tagliani and Power had a hard day at the classic circuit and could only manage 11th and 13th place respectively. Power was involved in a first corner incident with Bruno Junqueira and Jan Heylen that resulted in the Australian losing a lap while he was retrieved from the gravel trap. The incident put Power behind the eight-ball right from the beginning of the 51-lap event. Power continued to circulate to gain all important championship points. The young Queenslander has now dropped one championship position to seventh in the series heading into his home event. Power also has a greatly diminished lead in the Roshfrans Rookie of the Year award as a strong weekend by Dan Clarke saw the Brit reduce Power's lead to just six points in the rookie standings. Alex Tagliani was on course for a strong finish in the #15 Team Australia/Aussie Vineyards Lola until a puncture slowed the Canadian. Tagliani pitted just as the race was brought to a halt due to the massive crash involving Katherine Legge, dropping him out of the top 10 finish. Both Power and Tagliani can now look forward to better fortune at Team Australia's home event, the Lexmark Indy 300 on the Gold Coast. The Aussie Vineyards Champ Cars will be out to impress at the event, one of the most prestigious events on the Champ Car World Series schedule.
