Last Friday morning, the Indianapolis Star reported that IRL and Honda officials were looking at their options to be prepared should Toyota not participate in 2006 source: paddocktalk.com Which was interesting considering that most believed Toyota would honor their 2006 engine agreement. With that news, reporters surely were going to go looking for answers. And racing-live.com is reporting they have one. Their report states, "Sources close to the situation within the IndyCar community have stated that Toyota will leave early due to a lack of competitive teams and the high cost of attempting to catch up to Honda." The PaddockTalk Perspective: So if this report is true, one could certainly say Toyota would rather save face, than race. It seems that Toyota would rather bail, then face up to the fact they couldn't beat Honda, and keep their teams competitive. It seems that Toyota would rather bail, then rally to the challenge and face down the formidible foe. At least Chevy, honored the final year of their contract, and gave it their best effort. And they surprised many by doing remarkably well with their limited resources. It would seem Toyota could do the same... or not.
