A spiteful feud was the motivation behind Sebastien Bourdais's championship-clinching win in the Gold Coast Indy 300 last Sunday source: Herald Sun - Gavin McGrath The French driver said he did not want to let arch rival Paul Tracy win after the Canadian's car ran into the back of his teammate Oriol Servia's at the start of the race. Bourdais, who only had to turn up to guarantee his second consecutive Champ Car series crown, and Tracy have been involved in a series of heated clashes over the number of crashes between the two drivers this season. The champion said he had intended to be Servia's "wingman" for the day to protect the Spaniard during the race but changed his plan after Tracy knocked Servia out of the race along with former Toyota Formula One driver Cristiano da Matta on the first lap. "It was supposed to be Oriol's day but PT (Tracy) came out of nowhere, jumping up and down over the chicanes'," Bourdais said. "After that I really had to win this race because it would have been terrible for Oriol if PT had won that race." Bourdais became the 15th different winner of the Gold Coast race in its 15 years. American pair P. J. Allmendinger and Jimmy Vasser were second and third respectively. Servia was able to resume and finish fifth while Tracy retired mid-race with an engine failure.
