IRL's second attempt at turning right was another hard fought race source: paddocktalk.com - by Sam Tickell This time the challenge was a tight 2.3 mile, 12-turn permanent racecourse. Though the race had leaders from all three manufacturers and many different teams, ultimately the Andretti-Green powerhouse won the day... Again. For the fans surrounding Infineon Raceway, they saw what they usually see from an IRL IndyCar race: close racing, frustrated drivers and clever pit strategy. The weekend started out looking much different as the Target Chip Ganassi Racing team dominated the opening practice sessions. Newboy Giorgio Pantano was subbing for oval-expert Jacques Lazier and repaid Ganassi by topping the early times. His teammate Scott Dixon also led a practice session before the third Ganassi driver, rookie Ryan Briscoe, put his car on the pole. The weekend which started so positive for the Gannasi team, ended in disappointment... Again. Briscoe threw away a possible win as he lunged inside of Rahal Letterman's Danica Patrick and Penske Racing's Helio Castroneves. The mistake knocked all three drivers out of the race. An accident also sidelined Pantano. He was running solidly inside the top 10 before contact with Vitor Meira with two laps to go sent the former F1 pilot spectacularly off track and out of the race.
