The 2006 IRL IndyCar season has led to a final showdown between these two team owners, their teams, their managers, and their drivers. Who will take home the IRL IndyCar driver's title ? source: paddocktalk.com - Anne Proffit They are two men with the same mission: Tim Cindric, president of Penske Performance and Mike Hull, team manager for Target Chip Ganassi Racing are fighting for the 2006 Indy Racing League IndyCar Series championship with both of their drivers in the melee. Cindric's drivers, Helio Castroneves and Sam Hornish Jr. lie atop the standings, separated by a single point as the series holds its finale next Sunday, September 10 on the 1.5 mile Chicagoland Speedway oval. While both are good oval racers, Hornish has been to this well before and come away the winner twice (albeit not with Penske Racing). Castroneves, on the other hand, has two Indianapolis 500 winner's rings but no championships to show for his time racing in the USA. Cindric, who mans the radio for Castroneves thinks his driver be fine. "Helio is determined to give it his best shot and come home with the title," he said. "I hope they race clean to the flags next Sunday. Bringing home the title for Penske Racing comes first and they both know that. In this race," Cindric emphasized, "they're (Castroneves and Hornish) going to have to have patience and have the opportunity to defend their positions at the end of the race." Hull's two drivers, Dan Wheldon and Scott Dixon, have a bit more work to do to gain the title. They are 19 and 21 points, respectively, behind Castroneves. "It's got to remain a team effort and we won't stand in the way for either of our guys to win," said Hull. "We have to win this race in order to gain the championship."
