The top two drivers in the 2004 Champ Car World Series Rookie of the Year
standings will line up alongside each other next season following the
announcement that British driver Justin Wilson will move to the RuSPORT team in
2005.
The ex Minardi and Jaguar Formula One driver will leave the Mi-Jack Conquest
team to team up with the man who beat him to the rookie title, AJ Allmendinger,
in an announcement which also quashes rumours that Red Bull Racing could have
been interested in taking Allmendinger to F1.
The 22 year-old American, who regularly ran near the front of the field ahead of
more experienced opposition during 2004, is looking forward to continuing his
career behind the wheel of the #10 RuSPORT Ford-Cosworth Lola.
"After having a strong first year, finishing sixth in the overall standings, and
winning the Rookie of the Year title, I'm even more excited to get in the car
and build on what we as a team have accomplished this year," he said. "I'm truly
living my dream and I know winning pole positions and races is right around the
corner. We came into this year knowing we had a lot to learn; now I'm confident
we can contend for the championship."
Wilson collected ten top-ten starts and seven top-ten finishes during his first
season of Champ Car racing and, like Allmendinger, he is confident that his new
team will be able to help him challenge for the title.
