2003 Chevrolet Malibu Overview

When the current Malibu came on the scene in 1996 as a 1997 model many thought it was a slick import. The stylized wave logo made it difficult to make out the somewhat hidden bowtie. Was Chevy trying to hide its identity? Being that the new Malibu was effectively replacing the unloved Corsica while the rest of Chevy's 1997 sedan lineup included only the Cavalier and somewhat dated Lumina, neither making any ground in the import war, it probably made sense to allow their new midsize 4-door a little bit of separation. That said with model year 2000's center grille and emblem changes, bringing the bowtie proudly up front, there doesn't seem to be any more need to maintain a low profile.
