2010 Nissan Rogue SL AWD Review
Monday, November 16, 2009
I've written often about this subject in the past and recent sales results have typically justified my thoughts. This is a product-driven market. This means that not only must carmakers offer a vehicle in just about every segment, it must be interesting, it has to have that "je-ne-sais-quoi" to capture consumers and their typically short attention spans.

2010 Acura ZDX First Impressions
Friday, October 09, 2009
As automotive design moves forwards for some, backwards for others, the challenge remains to captivate and retain people's attention and imagination. This is especially true when a manufacturer introduces a new product on an already overly saturated market. If you are launching the next-generation Corolla, new boundaries need not be conquered. On the other hand, in the case of a new crossover sedan hatchback with coupe aspirations, a new playing field must be constructed.

2009 Volkswagen Tiguan Trendline Review
Friday, August 28, 2009
If you are looking at the Tiguan for the first time, it is a bit like the poem by John Godfrey Saxe, The "Six Blind Men of Indostan", who had never been able to check out a whole elephant. They had only been able to touch one part each and had very different opinions of what an elephant was. This created a great controversy amongst the men. The Tiguan is a bit like that. Each combination changes the nature of the vehicle.

2009 Hyundai Tucson 25th Anniversary Edition Review (video)
Friday, March 06, 2009
Back when the SUV was bought primarily for its four wheel drive, actually having four wheel drive was considerably more important. If you didn't need it, there was always the minivan. Now, things are slightly more complicated. People now buy SUV's to satisfy a far broader set of needs. Be it an eco-warrior, a sports car or a street-smart status symbol, in many regards, four wheel drive just isn't as relevant here anymore.

2009 Jeep Patriot North 4WD Review
Friday, January 02, 2009
A first impression is hard to change. When you meet someone for the first time, it supposedly takes about 30 seconds to make an idea in your mind of what kind of person is standing in front of you, and if you like that person or not. The same goes for cars and trucks. Walk in a dealership and spot the vehicle you're interested in. After a few seconds, if the exterior shape pleases you, the next step is arguably to open the door and sit down in it.

Aren't Jeeps supposed to be rugged, go-anywhere types of vehicles? Would you call a Dodge Caliber with 4WD one of those? Well, I'm ready to eat my words and take back everything that I have said about the Patriot in the past, because after spending a week in one, I totally get it.

The Grand Vitara is like an old friend you're always happy to see again. It doesn't undergo a radical personality change every chance it gets, and its steadfastness is reassuring. 2009 Suzuki Grand Vitara JX Review
Wednesday, November 26, 2008
When the Grand Vitara was redesigned for the 2006 model year, the 4-cylinder Vitara bit the dust. Suzuki's compact SUV was left with only one engine which was shared with the old XL7. For a few years, it was sufficient. Now, as SUV owners are downsizing, 4-cylinder trucks are the new trend. Toyota's RAV4, Ford's Escape and Mazda's Tribute have all received engine upgrades for 2009, so Suzuki didn't have much choice but to follow suit. And the Grand Vitara actually gets two new engines for 2009, a four and a more-powerful six.

2009 Jeep Wrangler X Review
Thursday, December 04, 2008
You mightn't think there's much fun to be had in a new, twenty-thousand dollar vehicle- but Jeep is determined to continue changing that perception. Even in its most basic "X" trim with no options, it represents tremendous value for the adventurous, fun-loving and active buyer.

2009 Kia Sportage LX V6 Road Test (video)
Wednesday, November 12, 2008
Compact SUVs abound. The choice on the market is huge, and only your budget and needs will help you make an informed decision. Of the many vehicles available, some are somewhat lost in the crowd. Yet it's not for a lack of quality, as the Kia Sportage demonstrates. Lightly updated in 2009, the Sportage is certainly a logical and affordable choice, as is its twin, the Hyundai Tucson. 2008 Jeep Liberty Limited Review
Sunday, October 19, 2008
In the total redesign for 2008, Liberty has taken on more of what we think of as "Jeep" characteristics, particularly on the outside.
